(American Legion Baseball) The american legion baseball season is up and running this weekend. Both Medicine Hat teams are involved in pre-season tournaments with the knights competing in the minors tournament inLlethbridge and the Monarchs are taking part in the Vauxhall tournament. The Monarchs play their first game at Vauxhall at 1:00 against the Lethbridge Elks, and the knights are taking thier swings at noon when they play the Calgary Cubs in the windy city. (MLB) The Toronto Blue Jays completed a three-game series sweep in Minnesota, taking their fourth in a row, 3-2 in 11 innings. Joe Inglett drove in the winning run with a two-out, pinch-hit bases-loaded single. It was that type of game for the Twins, as they twice ended innings with runners thrown out at home on hits by Canadian Justin Morneau. (NHL) The Philadelphia Flyers beat Pittsburgh 4-2 to avoid a four-game sweep in the N-H-L's Eastern Conference final. Joffrey Lupul opened the scoring in the Flyers' three-goal first period before adding an empty-netter in the final minute. Biron, who turned back 36 shots for the Flyers and blanked the Penguins until Jordan Staal scored twice in the final period. |
