Bye Bye Santa!!!

Christmas has come and gone for another year.

I’m kind of a funny duck when it comes to Christmas. There are things I love about it and things I absolutely detest about it.

The thing I love about Christmas is simple….family. I like nothing better than getting together with the whole family, sitting around, catching up, sharing what’s going on in our lives and remembering great stories from the past, sharing a good meal (or 3) together. Yeah, we exchange a present or two but in all honesty, it wouldn’t be neccesary. Just having everyone together would definitley be enough…some families aren’t lucky enough to be able to do this because of distance, work or whatever. That’s the warm and fuzzy stuff I like….

Here’s the things about Christmas that I can’t stand. At the top of the list…CHRISTMAS MUSIC!!! I guess you can call me Grinch on this one. If it was soley up to me, a Christmas song would never soil the airwaves on CHAT. I find Christmas music hokey and irritating. I don’t expect many people to agree with me on this. I was hoping they would on our Listener Advisory Panel when I asked them about their Christmas music preference, but no cigar. Our listeners wanted a  mix of new original Christmas songs, the Christmas standards by today’s stars, and the all time Christmas Classics…so that’s what we tried to give them. Did we succeed…I don’t know…did we?? That’s kind of up to you. I’ve been told we didn’t play enough, we played too much, we played the right stuff, we played the wrong stuff….all over the map really…maybe that’s a good sign???? Whatever…its done for another year…don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out Rudolph!!! Quickly…other things I dislike about Christmas…fake Christmas tree’s, any Christmas tree that’s up before Dec 1, Christmas trees that look like they belong in a department store instead of in a families living room, clear Christmas lights (Christmas is for the kids…kids like COLOR people!!!), egg nog (makes me ill just smelling it), candy canes, paying $12 to get my kids picture with “Santa”,  the fact that Cartwright starts listening to Christmas music in early Oct, wearing a beat up crappy Santa suit, the fact that I can’t wrap a present to save my life (Thank God for the United Way!!), having to go into a mall/Walmart/any store with hundreds of other morons who also have no idea what they’re looking for, extra drunks behind the wheel, the 10 pounds I gain and never lose, working in a studio that looks like Toyland (at least Bolty uses colored lights though…and gave me a stocking full of stuff….maybe this one can get off the bad list…MAYBE), stores that stay open 24 hours (is this really neccessary???), skinny Santa’s (never trust em’), brown Christmases (not this year…lucky!!), inebriated fools at the office Christmas party (they know who they are…you probably know a few too),….OK I better stop…this is getting out of hand!!! I sound a wee bit bitter don’t I….holy cow….you know what though…THAT WAS THERAPUTIC!!! I feel much better!!!

Seriously though, the one good thing, family; outweighs all the other stuff and does make it the most wonderful time of the year.

Hug your family and kiss you kids.
